Pertubuhan Kebajikan Semai Budi (PERMAI BUDI) is committed to providing holistic and quality education to the less fortunate. We co-founded the Fickry High School in Kampong Chumnik, Cambodia in 2014 providing dual stream education , religious and national curriculum to the children in the village and the surrounding areas.
We chose the village because from our observation awareness for education was almost non-existent among the adults especially parents. Most children stopped schooling at age 12 and girls are married off at age 15-16. Through our community service over 5 years starting 2009 there we noticed the huge potential the children possessed. What they lacked was the opportunity, which we decided to provide
We started off with one block of 12 classrooms but demand has been overwhelming that we had to build another block of classes. We now have 850 students ranging from kindergarten to upper secondary. This is proof that over the short period the success of the school has managed to change the mind-set of the villagers about education.
However, support from the government in terms of funding has been sorely lacking. After five years the school is in danger of closing down if funds don’t come in. This would surely dash the dreams of the children and the whole community there to see a real change happening in their midst.
We therefore invite generous Malaysians and everyone else to join us in this noble initiative. For as low as RM20.00 you could sponsor a child to attend school for a month. For RM240.00 a child can go to school for a whole year. Your contributions would go a long way to help these children get educated and finally breaking this cycle of poverty that has enveloped the community for generations.
